Let’s take a look at the CNC lathe market and its advantages.

Market China is a major manufacturing country, and its domestic CNC lathe market is extremely large. Domestic CNC lathe manufacturers each have their own distinctive features and compete fiercely in the market. This has given rise to two main types: one consists of larger-scale manufacturers, characterized by high quality and higher prices; the other comprises smaller manufacturers, known for good quality at lower prices. As China’s R&D and manufacturing capabilities continue to improve, the country has gradually shifted from importing CNC lathes to exporting them, demonstrating strong momentum in the development of China’s CNC industry.

Advantage

The Programmable Logic Controller (PLC, for short) is also a general-purpose automatic control device based on a powerful processor. It is used to perform various logical operations and sequential controls for CNC Machine Tools, such as starting and stopping the machine tool, clamping workpieces, changing tools, switching coolant, and other auxiliary actions. The PLC also receives instructions from the machine tool’s operation panel: on the one hand, it directly controls the machine tool’s movements; on the other hand, it sends relevant instructions to the CNC system for controlling the machining process. In CNC systems, PLCs come in two types: built-in and standalone.

The operation of the CNC Machine Tool is performed via a human-machine interface panel, which consists of a CNC panel and a machine tool panel.

The CNC panel is the operator interface of a CNC system, consisting of a display and a manual data input (MDI) keyboard, also known as the MD panel. At the bottom of the display, there is always a menu selection key used to choose from various menus. In addition to various symbol keys, numeric keys, and function keys, the keyboard can also be configured with user-defined functions. Operators can use the keyboard and display to manage the system, input, store, edit, and modify CNC programs and related data. During machining, the screen dynamically displays system status, fault diagnostics, and alarm messages. Furthermore, CNC programs and data can also be imported via disk or communication interfaces.

The machine tool operation panel is primarily used for operating the CNC Machine Tool in manual mode and for pre-operation or automatic operation. It features various buttons and selector switches for starting and stopping the machine tool and auxiliary equipment, selecting machining modes, choosing speed ratios, and more. It also includes digital displays and signal indicators. On small- and medium-sized CNC Machine Tools, the operation panel is often integrated with the CNC control panel; however, there remains a clear distinction between the two. The communication interfaces of the CNC system—such as serial ports—are permanent and located on the machine tool operation panel.
